چکیده
Consider the set D[a,b] of all cumulative distribution functions F(·) over some interval [a,b], and an individual whose preference ranking over this set can be represented by a real-valued preference functional V(F), in the sense that the distribution F*(·) is weakly preferred to F(·) if and only if V(F*) ≥ V(F). Note that V(·) is ordinal in the sense that some other functional V*(·) will represent the same preference ranking if and only if V*(·) = φ(V(·)) for some increasing function φ(·). If the individual is an expected utility maximizer, we know that V(·), or some increasing transformation of it, will take the linear form V(F) ≡ U(x)dF(x), where U(·) is known as the individual's von Neumann-Morgenstern utility function. In such a case we know that the individual will rank the distributions F*(·) and Fo(·) according to the sign of V(F*) V(Fo) = U(x)·[dF*(x)-dFo(x)] (1)

Two Errors in the ' Allais Impossibility Theorem
In his so-called 'Allais Impossibility Theorem', Allais (1988) asserts that the technique of 'generalized expected utility analysis' from Machina (1982) is invalid, on the grounds that its key tool, the 'local utility function', cannot be well-defined for preferences over finite-outcome lotteries. This paper presents a brief description of the local utility function and a summary of Allais' arg...
متن کاملSUPER- AND SUB-ADDITIVE ENVELOPES OF AGGREGATION FUNCTIONS: INTERPLAY BETWEEN LOCAL AND GLOBAL PROPERTIES, AND APPROXIMATION
Super- and sub-additive transformations of aggregation functions have been recently introduced by Greco, Mesiar, Rindone and v{S}ipeky [The superadditive and the subadditive transformations of integrals and aggregation functions, {it Fuzzy Sets and Systems} {bf 291} (2016), 40--53]. In this article we give a survey of the recent development regarding the existence of aggregation functions with ...
متن کاملAn efficient extension of the Chebyshev cardinal functions for differential equations with coordinate derivatives of non-integer order
In this study, an effective numerical method for solving fractional differential equations using Chebyshev cardinal functions is presented. The fractional derivative is described in the Caputo sense. An operational matrix of fractional order integration is derived and is utilized to reduce the fractional differential equations to system of algebraic equations. In addition, illustrative examples...
متن کاملPayoff Kinks in Preferences Over Lotteries
This paper identifies two distinct types of payoff kinks that can be exhibited by preference functions over monetary lotteries—“locally separable” vs. “locally nonseparable”—and illustrates their relationship to the payoff and probability derivatives of such functions. Expected utility and Fréchet differentiable preference functions are found to be incapable of exhibiting locally nonseparable p...

We revisit the classical local Expected Utility analysis of Machina [30] and show which is its global behavioral foundation, as an illustration, we compute the local utilities for the Prospect Theory model.
